M9 Maple
What type of bat should I get?
I’m buying some bats in a week, preferably maple. I need to know what type you recommend. I was thinking Louisville M9′s, but a friend I know who used them didn’t like them. I’m a pretty good power hitter, and I have okay (and improving) bat speed. I’m 6″1 and 180 pounds. Last year, using metal bats, I used a 33″, -3 , but I know it will be different with wood. What do you recommend I use in terms of length and weight. If you have experience with any maple bats that you’ve used, let me know. Thanks
Hmmmm…….wood bats…..okay, here’s some advice:
Maple bats do not break easily. I have hit plenty of baseballs off the shaft of the bat countless times with a single maple bat before it broke. Maple is strong and it will last for a while. Plus, it is sturdy and you’ll get great, crisp hits.
Another option for a power hitter is ash. Ash is known to break easier than most of the other wood types. However, it is very powerful and you will jack a sizeable number of home runs before it shatters. Personally, I would go with maple, but keep ash in mind if you choose.
Now with length and weight, I would probably try something along the lines of a 32″ bat, to get used to. If you think you can handle a 33″, go ahead. Basically, whatever you think you will get a hit with, take it to the plate with you.
With maker, try Mizuno and Max Bats. Try out and swing a different assortment of bats to see what make is good for you (same goes with the length and weight). Whatever you decide is the brand for you, stick with it.
